TL;DR: I made a mock-up of a chatbot for Discord using personas.

Discord is an instant messaging and digital distribution platform that allows its users to communicate with voice calls, video calls, text, media, and files. It was first created to cater to gamers, but it has since evolved to include students and more.

This chatbot was a product of a UX Principles class assignment. The purpose of the assignment was to learn how to develop personas for any app/website, and then create a persona for a chatbot that would cater to those personas.

I had chosen Discord because it is an app that I use very often to communicate with friends. Due to the short time frame, minimal customer/user research was allowed. Thus, I based the personas on friends and mutual acquaintances.

The first persona I made, Sean Hampton, was based on my friends. I asked them what frustrated them the most about any sort of communication application, to which they responded with latency issues and the inability to communicate while on the go. With their responses and my own knowledge, I created Sean Hampton, the first persona.

The second persona, Loretta Hunter, was based on a mutual acquaintance who was kind enough to work with me. When asked about what they want and don't want in a communication app, they responded with wanting the ability to moderate and effectively communicate with their team, and not have to use an app with a large learning curve. With this, the second persona, Loretta Hunter, was made.

Lastly, I created a persona for the chatbot itself, Wumpus. I went with the beloved (unofficial) mascot of Discord, Wumpus, as they were already well-known to established Discord users and is known to be a loveable, silly creature. With this, I made sure that the chatbot would come off as friendly, extroverted, and a little childlike, as Discord has a more "laid-back" reputation, so to speak. Wumpus would be easy to approach and talk to and be able to find a solution for any problems that the users may face while using Discord.
